Soar like an Eagle

Have you been watching the Eagles nest at Hornby Island? Here is the link if you would like to view nature at its best. http://www.hornbyeagles.com/webcam.htm. It is so precious to watch the tender parent eagles care first for the egg and now for their young.
In one scene the father used his rather large claws to gently turn the egg. A few days later one could watch as the father brought a fish and the mother carefully offered it to her young. This careful feeding and care for their child will last about twelve weeks and then the little eagle will take flight. Leaving before the twelve weeks are up could be fatal, and staying in the nest too long is also dangerous. It must begin the journey at the appropriate time.
There are times in life when the best we can do is wait. It is a human tendency to jump in too soon. For example, we are at times restless and speak before hearing the whole story. Our busy lives often cause us to jump at the first chance instead of waiting for the right time. Actors can be heard saying, “Timing is everything.” Certainly, musicians know about waiting for the “pause.” A failure to wait for the count would cause disharmony. As one of your pastors, I know a few of you who are eager to jump, but are struggling to wait. We as a congregation are eager to move to the next phase, but we are called to wait for a settled pastor.
The scripture writers remind us of the benefit of waiting. “They that wait upon God will renew their strength, they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not be weary; and walk and not faint.”
Let’s wait with patience so that together we can soar like eagles.
These are the scripture readings in the Revised Common Lectionary for the forthcoming Sunday:
Psalm 67
Make Your Face Shine upon Us
To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments. A Psalm. A Song.
67:1 May God be gracious to us and bless us
and make his face to shine upon us, Selah
2 that your way may be known on earth,
your saving power among all nations.
3 Let the peoples praise you, O God;
let all the peoples praise you!
4 Let the nations be glad and sing for joy,
for you judge the peoples with equity
and guide the nations upon earth. Selah
5 Let the peoples praise you, O God;
let all the peoples praise you!
6 The earth has yielded its increase;
God, our God, shall bless us.
7 God shall bless us;
let all the ends of the earth fear him!
Isaiah 40:31
31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.
John 14:23-29
23 Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. 24 Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me.
25 “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. 28 You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. 29 And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe.
