Have you had an Epiphany?

Have you had moments when the proverbial light goes on and your answer appears? Many people call this type of experience an “epiphany.” Today, January 6, 2010, is the feast of Epiphany.
This important liturgical feast is celebrated by Christians around the globe as we commemorate the revelation of God in the person of Christ. Today, many Christian families will sit down to a delicious Epiphany tradition, the “Galette des Rois” or more commonly called, “kings cake.” In a kings’ cake a small trinket is hidden. Whoever finds the trinket is made king (or queen) for the day. Finding the trinket symbolizes receiving a revelation just as the three kings received the revelation of Jesus, the Christ.
It would be nice if all answers and revelations were as easy as eating a delicious piece of cake. However, most answers come to us after we have searched, waited and prayed. Matter of fact some answers come to us after countless attempts of running up the wrong hill. Sometimes our searches take us to new places. At other times what we discover is completely different then what we thought we would find.
These are the scripture readings in the Revised Common Lectionary for the forthcoming Sunday:
Isaiah 43:1-7
Israel's Only Savior
43:1 But now thus says the Lord,
he who created you, O Jacob,
he who formed you, O Israel:
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name, you are mine.
2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
and the flame shall not consume you.
3 For I am the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.
I give Egypt as your ransom,
Cush and Seba in exchange for you.
4 Because you are precious in my eyes,
and honored, and I love you,
I give men in return for you,

Ascribe to the Lord Glory

29:1 Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings,
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.
3 The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
the God of glory thunders,
the Lord, over many waters.
4 The voice of the Lord is powerful;
the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.

Acts 8:14-17
14 Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John, 15 who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, 16 for he had not yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.
Luke 3:15-21
15 As the people were in expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Christ, 16 John answered them all, saying, “I baptize you with water, but he who is mightier than I is coming, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. 17 His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.”
18 So with many other exhortations he preached good news to the people. 19 But Herod the tetrarch, who had been reproved by him for Herodias, his brother's wife, and for all the evil things that Herod had done, 20 added this to them all, that he locked up John in prison.
21 Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heavens were opened,
