Busy Again

Low and behold, somehow it is busy again. In December, of course, it comes as no surprise. In the midst of the holiday season, of course there is the planning, decorating and making things happen. We know there are events and get-togethers. There’s the baking for the events and get-togethers. There’s the change in schedule and traditions and the celebration itself. And I often fall into the habit of assuming that in January, things will slow down and there will be time to catch up.  And yet, here we are in January and even regular schedules can seem more than enough! Busy makes way for more busy. as one project leads to another, and Spring plans take over where Fall let off. It can catch one by surprise, that life will always be as busy as we let it.

It can be unexpected, that there isn’t a better time to live into our resolutions. If we are often busy, our lives are marked best by the choices we make in the midst of busyness.  How will we care for those around us when there are many commitments? How do we live with integrity when we also have errands? How can we make sure our lives reflect what we value, when there are a lot of things happening in the meantime?

There is never a simpler time to love one another, regular days are pretty much all we’ve got. There is never a quieter time in which to wonder about the mysteries of existence. If faith is to be real, it needs to be found and shown in our regular errand-running, commitment-juggling, what-are-we-having-for-dinner lives.

So in the midst of busy this week, may you find a rhythm of love and service that brings you closer to wholeness and the holy.
Peace,
Lisa
