Children’s Faith Formation
Our church Sunday School program serves ages 2 through 11. At the beginning of the service is a special time dedicated to children. After their moment in the main service, they go to their grade-level classes and activities.
Activities
Activities include: Regular Sunday classes taught by lay teachers, a weekend summer family camp, family game afternoons or evenings, and 4th and 5th grade “socials”.
Children’s Discovery Choir is also available for kids up to 5th grade.
Vacation Bible School is a summer weekday activity where children outside the church are invited to attend. Youth of the church help adult volunteers work with the children on fun theme-based on Christian education. These activities culminate in a special presentation by the children and lunch for all.
Curriculum
The Church School curriculum for 2009-2010 is The Whole People of God. This enormously popular curriculum coordinates with the lectionary and weekly worship, and includes a wide variety of options for each week. Different material is explored at each age level, but the participants all explore the same Bible story, providing options for family interaction during the week.
Staffing
One paid staff member, Sara Gillam, coordinates and leads the group, planning and implementing the Sunday morning lessons as well as organizing and leading social and outreach activities. There are also a dedicated group of parent teacher-teams assisted by middle school youth.
