Congregations for the Homeless

Our church is a partner with Congregations for the Homeless, and we will be hosting their rotating shelter for the month of November. This will be the 26th year that we have been extending our extravagant welcome to men experiencing homelessness on the Eastside! Please join us in serving these men in whatever way you can this fall. The choices are:

Join the team: Volunteer to be a host for a week in November. You will greet the men, put out juice, water, chips and salsa, organize the food that arrives from Sacred Heart parish, help serve dinner, and generally keep things organized. You’ll get to know the men, and share dinner with them. You will need to arrive at about 6:15pm and expect to stay until about 8:00pm.

Serve Dinner:  Sign up to make sandwiches and serve dinner to the men from 6:30-8 PM. A CFH host will be there each night to assist you and answer any questions. Please arrive hungry – the best part of the evening is sharing dinner with the men.

The sign-up calendar will be on the table outside the sanctuary.

Stock the Pantry:  As in years past, donations of food are a great help in feeding 35 men breakfast and lunch every day for a month. Watch for the “Stock the Pantry” poster in the coming weeks. We appreciate donations of orange juice (it’s cold and flu season!), lunch chips, and granola bars. If you’d rather donate cash, and let us do the shopping, that also works. Put “CFH donation” in the memo line of your check.

Donate:  Toiletries such as personal-sized soap, shampoo, and toothpaste, as well as socks (non-cotton, moisture-wicking!), boxer briefs (sizes M-XXXL), sweatshirts, hats & gloves are always welcome. Please put them in the CFH donation box near the kitchen!

Thank you for your support of Congregations for the Homeless!
