Microcredit Committee

Educates our church and the Eastside Community about microcredit through our involvement in Oikocredit Support Northwest. Microcredit is an effective way to help individuals and communities in developing countries rise out of poverty through the use of small loans to start their own small businesses. The simple purchase of a cow or chickens can provide something to sell in a local market, the weaving of baskets or the knitting of hand made goods to sell in the marketplace are some of the many ways these loans are put to use.  Through Oikocredit, the world’s largest microfinance organization, participants are encouraged to join in with neighbors to form cooperatives that aid and support one another’s efforts.  Our church’s committee is represented on the Oikocredit Northwest Board and is looking to expand this effort through interested parishioners.  The ways to work on this newly forming committee are numerous and will match your interest.  Items from helping to host an educational forum to specific board work are in need.  Microcredit is a life changing, sustainable way to make a long term different in the lives of the neediest in our world community.
