Chancel Handbell Choir

Chancel Handbell Choir

There is an opportunity for anyone willing to learn to read music and play.

The handbell ringers periodically provide special music during worship. The bell choir also plays during the instrumental concert preceding our Christmas Eve service. The ringers practice Tuesdays, 7:00-9:00 p.m, with some weeks earlier. See the calendar for details.

More than a practicing musical group, Bell Choir is an active community spanning three generations, from teens to grandparents. Our practices are spirited, full of joking and laughter, and yet still productive, as we learn more than a dozen musical pieces each year for playing during services in the church sanctuary. In recent years, as players have stayed with us longer, we have improved under Patrick’s patient leadership, increasing our ability to play more complex and challenging pieces, and we frequently find ourselves playing at the same pace he is conducting.

And yet, there is always room for complete newcomers. A wonderful aspect of playing bells is that you can start small, with just a single bell to play, and learn to read music and count measures and discover the art of playing handbells at your own pace. Meanwhile, you are part of every raucous practice and a member of the community from the first day. Come join us!
