Sunday church services provide insight into what a church is like, but the real community happens at other times. When you share interest and passion with others of different backgrounds, you develop appreciation, understanding, relationships and community. Here are dozens of ways to do that…and even a way to start entirely new community groups.

Congregational Care Commission

From home visits to driving to card-writing, there are a variety of ongoing "inreach" opportunities to reach out to our own members in need to build a stronger, compassionate community.

Congregations For the Homeless (CFH)

This committee is our interface to a program called Congregations for the Homeless (CFH) housing homeless men throughout the year in host church locations on a month to month basis. Our church becomes a shelter for homeless men for the month of November every year.

Crop Walk Committee

We walk because they walk. This committee helps to organize the annual Crop Walk in downtown Bellevue for world hunger relief.

Crossroads Meal Program

The Crossroads' Meal Program operated by the Salvation Army offers a hot meal Monday-Friday to needy families and individuals in the Crossroads area of Bellevue. Bellevue First Congregational has been a part of this program since August 1987 by making and serving a hearty meal on the fourth Wednesday of every month.

Discovery Choir

Children's Choir for Grades K-5

Driving Volunteers

Driving Volunteers members volunteer their vehicles and themselves to go and bring members to church who otherwise would not be able to attend, usually for reasons of ill health or infirmity.

Education Commission

This group coordinates the faith-based classes within the church for all ages. It consists of several specific committees.

Emergency Feeding Program Committee

The Emergency Feeding Program has two parts. One happens during the week as our office staff facilitates our mission of providing emergency feed to visitors in need; we are a Emergency Feeding distribution center and have an active program helping our visitors in need. The second part involves the whole congregation bringing specific food products to church on Communion Sunday to be collected by the Jr. High Youth Group. Our motto, Communion Sunday is Emergency Feeding Sunday!, helps us remember to bring our food offerings. However, offerings are welcome anytime!

Empty Nesters

This is a group of adults whose children have now moved out on their own. They meet socially to visit and discuss topics of common interest.

Endowment Committee

Assists the Trustees of the Permanent Endowment Trust in overseeing the Trust. Promotes stewardship of accumulated assets, assists church council in designating uses of income, and promotes the use of the endowment as an option for members of the congregation.

Finance Committee

Oversees financial affairs of the Church including the Endowment, assists Church Treasurer in preparation and presentation of budgetary needs for the coming year.

Junior High Youth Group

Youth in 6th through 8th grade and young 9th graders meet weekly for an educational and social time from 9:30-10:30 a.m.. They also plan an annual retreat and have several social events throughout the year.
