The Church CouncilLeaders just like you

The governing body of a congregational church is the church council—church members just like you who volunteer on various commissions to help the church in areas of interest or need and are elected to a leadership position:

  • Commissions are groups of volunteers working on long-term frequent areas of need that affect the entire church. The leader of each commission has a seat on the council.
  • Committees are groups of volunteers working on short-term projects or long-term projects that affect fewer people, such as the scholarship committee. Committee leaders do not sit on the council, but are typically represented by the Commissions of which they are a part.

Our church council consists of a Moderator, Associate or Immediate Past Moderator, Treasurer, Clerk, the Chair of each of the commissions, two at-large members and at least one youth representative. The Minister and Associate Minister(s) are ex-officio members of the council.

The Council meets monthly to work on the business, budget and activities of the church, in accordance with the Church Bylaws. Meetings are always open to anyone to attend. For the latest meeting schedule, see Church Council in the Community section of this site. Minutes from these meetings are in the secure Members section of this site (Ask the Church office for an invitation code).
